Tyra Mariani is the founder and principal of UP Advisors LLC, a firm that provides coaching and strategic advising services to help her clients create results for themselves and their teams.

Throughout her twenty-five years working across multiple sectors and organizational structures, Tyra gained first-hand experience on the challenges and benefits of leading and working in dynamic environments and managing change within those environments.

Tyra was the president of the Schultz Family Foundation where she assisted Sheri and Howard Schultz in accelerating the family’s work to address inequality by unlocking greater opportunities for individuals and communities facing obstacles to economic and social mobility. She was also president and chief operating officer of New America, and she’s served in several leadership roles across the education sector, ranging from government under the Obama administration to non-profit and district leadership. Tyra began her career in the private sector, with roles at Kraft Foods leading organizational development efforts and consulting at McKinsey & Company.

Tyra approaches her coaching work through careful listening, compassionate directness and an eye on encouraging actionable efforts that lead to positive outcomes. She understands the lonely nature of leadership so works to serve as a thought partner to her clients while helping them develop the muscles to further strengthen their own leadership skills and achieve their goals.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Howard University and has a master’s in business from Stanford University. And she gives philanthropically by serving on the board of directors of Howard University, Fidelity Charitable, and Jobs for the Future.

Tyra is based in Seattle WA and has been on a lifelong journey to live a whole, healthy and authentic life.
